About this experience
Explore Thessaloniki’s rich Jewish heritage on this half-day, city centre walking tour. Discover why Thessaloniki is known as the 'Mother of Israel':
Visit key Jewish sites spanning from the old times to today, and experience the vibrant culture that shaped the city.
This four-hour walking tour takes you through Thessaloniki’s main Jewish sites. We begin at the two active synagogues of the city - Monastirioton and Yad Lezikaron - to delve into the city’s unique Jewish history, explore the old Jewish quarter and the Modiano Food Market. We visit the Jewish Museum and end with a moment of reflection at the Holocaust Memorial. Expect easy walking on flat terrain with plenty of stops across the city centre. The tour operates mornings (except Saturdays and public holidays) to ensure access to the key sites, after a written confirmation provided to me by the Jewish Community with timed appointments for our visits. Visitors' passport details are requested by your guide in order to book our visits.
