Why we built endorsements differently

There's something a little strange about how the travel industry handles guide reviews.
You lead an extraordinary day. Your guests are moved, grateful, maybe even a little emotional at the end. Then they go home, life takes over — and the review never comes. Or worse: someone leaves a one-star rating because the weather was bad. No context, no nuance, no way for you to respond.
That's the reality of anonymous review platforms. The guide's reputation is in the hands of strangers, managed by systems built for scale — not for the people who actually do the work.
We think that's backwards.
Endorsements are about who you actually are
When we started designing the Endorsement Engine, we kept coming back to one question: what would it look like if a guide's online presence worked more like their own website than a platform review page?
You'd curate it. You'd choose what to show. You'd add your own voice to the things people said about you.
That's exactly what we built.
With the Endorsement Engine, guides can request endorsements from three types of people: previous customers, fellow guides (peers), and companies they've worked with — travel agencies, hotels, DMCs. Each relationship tells a different part of the story. A peer endorsement speaks to your skills as a guide. A company endorsement signals professional credibility. A guest endorsement brings the experience to life.
Together, they give a far richer picture of who you are than a star average ever could.
Control without compromise
Every endorsement is verified — one per email address, per guide. Endorsers confirm they have a genuine relationship with the guide before their endorsement is published. This keeps the system honest.
But guides aren't passive recipients. When you receive an endorsement, you can add your own context. Not a reply to the endorser — a note that appears alongside theirs. "We toured together through the fjords for three days in July." "Maria has been part of our team for five years." That context transforms an endorsement from a comment into a story.
You can also choose which endorsements you show publicly. There's a simple eye icon — visible or hidden. This isn't about hiding criticism. It's about curation. Your profile is your professional home. You decide what best represents you.
Why this matters for guides
Guides on Keyguides Connect have a shareable, bookable page — a site that's genuinely theirs. The Endorsement Engine is an extension of that philosophy. Instead of sending potential guests to Tripadvisor to cross-reference reviews, guides can point directly to their own profile: here's what guests say, here's what my colleagues think, here's who I've worked with.
That's a different kind of credibility. Not a number on a platform you don't control — but a collection of voices from people who actually know you.
We think that's what guides deserve. And we think travelers are better served by it too.
