Why are Locations changing?
We’re making some changes to how Locations work in Keyguides Connect.
Previously, guides could add:
Cities
Regions
Larger areas
Or even an entire country
under “My Places”.
Over time, we noticed this created confusion — both for guides and guests.
Many guides added large regions or entire countries because they wanted to make sure they appeared in all the places they were available to guide. This made sense from the guide perspective, but it also created unclear expectations for guests.
A traveler usually doesn’t search for:
“Vestland County”
“Northern Spain”
or “South of France”
They search for a specific city where they want to book a guide.
That’s why we’re simplifying Locations and focusing mainly on cities.
What is changing?
The old “My Places” setup is being replaced.
Locations are now connected directly to Custom Tours.
This means your selected locations will answer one simple question:
“Where are you available to be booked for a Custom Tour?”
For most guides, this should mainly be cities.
Examples:
Oslo
Bergen
Stockholm
Madrid
What should I do?
If you currently have:
Regions
Counties
Larger geographic areas
Or entire countries
these locations may now appear as invalid in your Custom Tour settings.
You should replace them with the specific cities where you actively offer Custom Tours.
What if I guide in multiple places?
No problem.
You can still:
Add multiple cities
Offer tours in different destinations
Create Signature Tours in locations outside your Custom Tour cities
Example:
Your Custom Tour location could be
Oslo
But you can still create a Signature Tour in
Flåm
or
Geiranger
Custom Tour locations are mainly about:
Where guests can request flexible/private guiding
Setting clear expectations
Improving search and booking clarity
Why are we doing this?
We want booking a guide to feel:
Clearer
Simpler
More accurate
More useful for travelers
This change also improves:
Search results
Guest expectations
Booking quality
Discovery of guides in the right city
Tours Locations
Talking about your Signature Tours where you choose a fixed itinerary. We have also made changes to Locations that previously restricted tours. Previously you could only make tours in cities you had chosen in "My places". You can now make tours in your entire country by choosing the meeting point and the locations you want to visit. This tour will then be visible on locations pages and searches for all of those cities. Please be mindful to only create tours in cities you are certified to guide in.
Example: If you Make a tour that has a starting point in Madrid and Locations include Madrid and Toledo - your tours will show up in searches for Madrid and Toledo, and your tour will be visible in both Madrid and Toledo pages.
Coming Soon: Primary City
We’re also working on a where guides can choose a Primary City, the City to be shown under your guide card on search pages. This used to live in "My places" and will get a new home soon.
This will appear on your public profile and help guests quickly understand where you are mainly based.
Example:
“Oslo Guide” “Madrid Guide” “Stockholm Guide”
This feature is not live yet, but it’s coming soon.
Our recommendation
When choosing Custom Tour locations, think:
“Where would a traveler realistically expect me to start or offer a flexible private tour?”
In most cases:
Cities work best
Smaller, clear locations are better than large regions
